Strawberry Hill Nature Preserve & Environmental Center, Fairfield, Pennsylvania (EUA)

Purpose and Summary
The Education Coordinator's key responsibilities are to deliver programs and provide excellent customer service to achieve successful programs defined in the annual goals. Strawberry Hill provides A range of over 20 grade level specific, as well as multi-age group programs, which conform to the Pennsylvania State Educational Standards for Ecology and Environment as formulated by the State Board of Education offered to area schools, as well as to a variety of public education programs. As with all staff positions at the Strawberry Hill, the Education Coordinator's first priority is advancing the mission and well-being of the Strawberry Hill Nature Preserve and Environmental Center. The position reports to the Executive Director.

 

Key Responsibilities
•Deliver exemplary environmental education programs in non-traditional and traditional settings including field trips, outreach, after-school, Scouts, birthday parties, public booths, public programs and camps.
•Provide direct customer services for Strawberry Hill customers
•Responsible for care, maintenance, and sometimes development of quality programs supplies and equipment
•Maintain cleanliness and safety of program spaces and personal office spaces
•Design, implement and evaluate activities for many programs including public programs, preschool through twelfth programs, and camps
•Administrative Responsibilities include:
?Obtaining and recording attendance numbers
?Receiving and recording fees
?Promote all programs and aspects of Strawberry Hill to ensure success of organization
?General site upkeep
?Ensure that evaluations are given to each participant
•Properly handle animals for educational purposes ensuring the safety of yourself, the animals and the participants.
•Assist in the brainstorm and development of new programs and themes for public programs
•All staff are expected to participate in certain events such as second Sundays and the annual fundraiser
•Update and maintain programs and program supplies as necessary
•Attend staff meetings
•Ensure safety of site, activities and participants
•Effectively communicate and coordinate with all members of the Strawberry Hill staff to ensure overall success of programming
•Oversee part-naturalist instructors
•Assist in scheduling part-time naturalist instructors to program requests
•Oversee volunteers
•Other duties as assigned
Areas for professional growth:

•Assist Executive Director with grant implementation, administration, and reporting for grant funded educational programs
•Assist with the training of new staff and continued professional development of all staff
•Assist with budget tracking
•Assist with developing marketing tools and dissemination of information
•Assist with development and fundraisers


Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
•Bachelor's Degree in environmental education, interpretation or related field or teaching experience with nature-based center or camp preferred.
•Sound knowledge of pedagogy and instructional strategies.
•Passion and aptitude for Pennsylvania natural history.
•Ability to effectively communicate with diverse constituencies; demonstrated public speaking skills and ability to communicate with enthusiasm to a variety of audiences, including but not limited to school groups and educators.
•Excellent verbal and written communication and active listening skills.
•Experience and ability to work well independently and in a team environment.
•CPR, First Aid Certification and a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain.
•Criminal background check is required for staff working with youth.
•Computer literacy on a Microsoft based platform.


Compensation
Salary: Commensurate with experience; based on a 40-hour work week
